Received a comment recently from Tiffney Batton about spreading the word about an event named Timmy’s Challenge. Here’s the message:

My name is Tiffney Batton. I am trying to get the word out about a great bike ride I am helping organize for Timmy’s Fund-a local nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting families who are currently battling childhood cancer. All gifts and donations will be used to relieve the financial and emotional burdens of families who are undergoing treatment at WVU’s Children’s Hospital. This 100 mile, 2 day ride takes place in North Bend state park-a beautiful scenic ride along the rail trail. There are great incentives for top fundraisers, and also the satisfaction that riders are helping families just like mine, who have a child struggling with cancer. My daughter was 2 years old when she was diagnosed, and during her 48 weeks of chemo,Timmy’s fund was a constant source of comfort and help. She is now 5 years old and CANCER FREE! Our family is so thankful for all Timmy’s fund has done, and want to help other families who are still in the fight of their lives. Will you please help me get the word out about this amazing opportunity for cyclists to unite & help over 50 families currently seeking treatment at WVUCH? Please let me know if I can be of further assistance. Our website is http://www.timmyschallenge.org
Happy Riding!

I thought I would take the time to cover a little bit about this event:

Time: Saturday, August 27 at 8:00am – August 28 at 5:00pm
Location: North Bend State Park

Description: What’s Your Challenge?

Have you ever thought of doing a 5k…10k….Half or Full Marathon? How about a 100 bike ride along the North Bend Rail Trail over 2 days?

If this event is calling your name, go to the Timmy’s Challenge Webpage and register today. This is going to be an awesome weekend. Timmy’s Century was such a HUGE success that we decided to up the ante and add in some additional events for 2011.

Check back here or the website for further updates….the planning hasn’t stopped yet. On Sunday, August 28th, we are going to have a day in the park for all non-participants. We are wanting a couple of bands to play at the amphitheater, there will be a huge cookout and games and family fun throughout the park.

Please invite all your friends out to this fantastic weekend and help us raise enough money to purchase the property for Timmy’s Place.

Everyone who participates in a co-ed group activity has encountered it. It may have happened to yourself! It may even be happening right now and you don’t even know it! It happens all the time, all around us. Falling for someone you spend a lot of time with is part of nature.

Hell, it even happened to Fatty, but most wouldn’t say that they were head over heels for one of their club members. Many will admit to a crush or so but nothing that goes anywhere.

So hard to find a pic of Liz Hatch with her jerzey zipped up 😮

Exercise/recreation induced relationships could be a fantastic case study due to so many variables for a thing like that so many people experience. The whole idea of “stay with the rider or still be the racerboy you are” or: “Uhhh – what can we do together outside of the sports activity that brought us together???

I think it is so prevalent in cycling because:

Cycling is easily a co-ed sport.

Cycling is naturally competitive.

Cycling usually involves people who don’t look like Rosie O’Donnell, or Louie Anderson

So by all means, with men and women cycling and possibly showing off/competing and looking more attractive than your average American, you can see how at least some check marks on the attraction list could be filled in. (more…)
