I contacted Genuine Innovations last week about my Ultraflate Plus CO2 inflator starting to fail due to the O-rings in the inflator being crushed a bit. This was causing about one out of every 3 of my CO2’s to prematurely release, and fail.
Here’s my email to them:

How did you hear about us: Bought one of your products from an IBD

Subject:  Gasket failures

Comments:  Dear GI, Love your products, and have been an evangelizing fan of your inflators for almost a decade. I still have this guy, (http://www.mcguckin.com/images/2203626.jpg) the Ultraflate Plus in the older colors. I’m wondering if you sell repair kits for the inflator, because any of your threadless co2 cartridges I use have… like… a 50% chance of success of not leaking. I’ve peeked into the puncturing area of the inflator, and the gasket next to the puncturing piece seems to have met its match. This is a problem… I have a ton of your non-threaded canisters, since the 6-pk is several dollars cheaper than the threaded ones at my LBS, and everyone and their mother is still feeling the repercussions of this wonderful economic downturn. What can I do to fix my little inflator?

I was hoping they would send me an O-ring or two that I would niggle the old one out, and replace with a new one.

Here is there response:

Genuine Innovations , #1 In CO2 Inflator

Well… They did send me some O-rings…

Take a look:

To me, this kind of customer service really goes above the call of duty. I wasn’t expecting this kind of care at all.

Thanks Genuine Innovations!

The Velohottie has been taking pics of cycling related things for me to ogle over. Unfortunately, my imagination has me imagining everyone riding $7000 Bianchis and Colnagos. My imagination has been known to wander, but Austria and German are not the cycling utopias I imagined… well at least her photos are not showing me what I fantasize about.

Take a look:

All of these bikes could have come from a big box department store, or crappy sporting goods center in America. Where are the flashy names, pretty bikes, or hell, even the sharing bikes I hear so much about? My expectations were high, but I still feel disappointed with the bikes, not the photos.

Well, this bike is pretty cool. It too has fenders and a rack, but it just looks a little cooler. The crank is a dead giveaway that it is a crap bike, but I still think I would commute on it if I had to…. 😦

On a drive to a friend’s today, I saw better bikes loaded into vehicles on Rt.33 (the highway) than I did in all of these photos so far. There was a Toyota with three MTB’s, one being a Top Fuel EX, and a Cannondale Scalpel. I can’t remember what the third was, but it was a Cannondale also.

She has also been taking random pics of other things that I thought would share.

Here is a MTB trail in Germany (Usingnen?) The guy with his back facing the camera has some kind of indistinguishable dual suspension MTB, with Schwalbe tires on Mavic rims, and a Rock Shox fork. The bike is pretty serious with hydraulic brakes, a remote seatpost, and computer/GPS mounted on the stem… Wish I knew what the frame was…

Here’s some other things that she took photos of, like bike lanes, trinkets, and signage~

I had this whole article written out, with the images still between each page of typed text. When I saved it, it all disappeared. I thought I would share it now, and type it all back later.

I contacted my local representatives about Alan Mollohan‘s bill that could potentially disrupt MTB’ing in a large section of the North Fork Trail System.

Shelley Moore Capito‘s office mailed me a letter, and it arrived this morning:

I wasn’t expecting much when I sent these emails to my representatives, but at least she adknowledged my concerns, and displayed her history on past decisions conerning these types of issues.

Thumbs up.

Waiting for some friends to go on our weekly B-Group ride, I ran into an individual named Randy Kennedy, who was carrying a B.O.B. I yelled “NICE SETUP,”  and he turned and introduced himself. Apparently, he is on a trip from Virginia Beach to Modesto California. I couldn’t help myself, and had to interview him.

Tomorrow, he will be heading on Rt33 to Parkersburg, and then Cincinnati OH. I wish him the best of luck.
